We have some exciting news to share. President Obama released his FY2015 budget proposal yesterday, and it includes—for the first time—dedicated funding that will provide cities across the country with the vital resources they need to help end the nationwide rape kit backlog.
This new $35 million funding will provide local communities resources to test backlogged kits in their police storage facilities, create multi-disciplinary teams to investigate and prosecute cases connected to the backlog, and address the need for victim notification and re-engagement with the criminal justice system.
We have been working closely with the White House in our efforts to end the national backlog, and we are grateful for the Administration’s dedicated support and commitment to eliminating the backlog and ensuring justice for all survivors.
This is a groundbreaking moment, and we invite you to join us as we thank the White House for its leadership on this critical issue.

ENDTHEBACKLOG is a program of the Joyful Heart Foundation to shine a light on the backlog of untested rape kits throughout the United States. Our goal is to end this injustice by conducting groundbreaking research identifying the extent of the nation’s backlog and best practices for eliminating it, expanding the national dialogue on rape kit testing through increased public awareness, engaging communities and government agencies and officials and advocating for comprehensive rape kit reform legislation and policies at the local, state and federal levels. We urge you to learn more about the backlog, where it exists and why it matters. We invite you to take action and support efforts to test rape kits. Help us send the message that we must take rape seriously.
